Commercial air conditioning in North Mymms, done properly

The right system depends on the building. Wall-mounted splits suit small offices and single rooms, cassettes suit open ceilings, ducted units hide away in ceiling voids, and VRF or VRV serves many rooms from shared outdoor units. We set out the choices and the reasons behind our recommendation. If you are dealing with commercial systems near the end of their life and missing F-gas records for commercial systems, we can sort it out.

If you run a village hall or similar building near North Mymms, heating and cooling that warms up fast suits a space used on and off, and it can heat as well as cool.

Think of the paperwork as the system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer and it’s worth keeping safe.

Larger buildings may need TM44 inspections at least every 5 years, and we prepare for them and act on the findings.

North Mymms: your questions answered

Is air conditioning in North Mymms permitted development?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Historic England lists about 7 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of North Mymms. Permitted development only covers heat pumps that are not used solely for cooling, and not within the grounds of a listed building. Conservation areas add limits on outdoor units facing a road. Where necessary, we check with the local planning authority (for North Mymms, typically Welwyn Hatfield council).

Do you cover North Mymms for commercial air conditioning?

We do: North Mymms falls inside our working area. Just phone 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few details.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us in North Mymms and across Hertfordshire. Let us know who the records should go to.

Which accreditations do you hold?

As the law requires for refrigerant work, we are an F-Gas certified company. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.

How are commercial air conditioning installs priced?

Every commercial job is priced after a site survey. The cost depends on the size of the space, the system and how the work is phased and the quote is fixed before we begin.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

How the visit works

Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. The visit takes as long as the site and the system need, from a short install to a phased project planned around opening hours. We plan the trip to North Mymms around you.

  1. We visit the site to look at the building, how it’s used and what the system needs to do.
  2. A fixed-price quote follows, covering the system type, the layout and the timing.
  3. Installation is scheduled to fit the business, with out-of-hours and phased work where necessary.
  4. The system goes in, from units and pipework to drainage, wiring and controls.
  5. We commission the system, record the refrigerant details and hand over the controls and documents.

Advice

What owners can safely do

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do, if the manual says so. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

What air conditioning won’t do

Commercial air conditioning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • Fire safety design or fire risk assessments
  • Planning permission or landlord consent on your behalf
  • Major builder’s work such as new openings in structural walls

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send an email and we will say what we think.

Where we work
