Ceiling cassettes

Ceiling cassettes spread air across a room from a single grille. They suit open-plan offices, shops and restaurants where there’s a ceiling void.

Offices

Office cooling has to cope with people, computers, lighting and sunshine. We size the system for the actual heat load with units that fit the layout.

There’s a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns. We’re often asked to deal with staff complaining about the temperature and comms rooms without enough cooling, across ducted systems, server and comms room cooling and VRF systems.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we set them out on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

What commercial work looks like in Crossbush

At about 3 miles from the coast, Crossbush is close enough for sea air to matter. Commercial condensers near the coast should be checked for corrosion on every maintenance visit. Food Standards Agency data counts about 26 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 9 hotels and guest houses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Crossbush. Each of those is a different cooling job, from kitchen heat to quiet bedrooms and server rooms.

For a school like The Littlehampton Academy, air conditioning work is best done out of term. If your office near Arundel station has a comms or server room, it needs cooling all year, not just in summer.

Crossbush: your questions answered

Does being near the sea make a difference to commercial air conditioning in Crossbush?

It can, as Crossbush is within about 3 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.

Is air conditioning in Crossbush permitted development?

The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. Historic England lists about 10 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Crossbush. A system that heats as well as cools may not need an application on a house, provided it stays within the permitted development limits. Cooling-only units get no such allowance, and listed buildings and road-facing positions in conservation areas need more care. We speak to Arun council, which is normally the planning authority for Crossbush when it matters.

Which brands do you work with?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and explain why.

How long does a commercial installation take?

Expect it to take a matter of days for a modest fit-out, with larger buildings phased floor by floor or zone by zone. The scale and programme decide most of it, and we set out the timing with your quote.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

How does the warranty work?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some brands make regular servicing a condition, so keep your service records.

How do you keep the place clean during the work?

We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards before we leave.

What we do, step by step

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and the rest is down to us. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you. Photos of the room and the outside of the property help us plan a visit to Crossbush.

  1. First comes a site survey of the building, its occupancy and the heat it has to deal with.
  2. The written quote is fixed and lists the plant, where it goes and the order of works.
  3. We agree a programme that suits the site, including evening, weekend or phased installation.
  4. Indoor and outdoor units, pipework, condensate and controls are installed and the electrics connected.
  5. Finally it’s commissioned and handed over, with the refrigerant records and manuals for your files.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
  • Tell us about parking and loading

Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Advice

After we have gone

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Review older R410A systems before they need major repairs
  • Book a maintenance contract to keep servicing on schedule
  • Call about warning signs right away

Equipment warranties come from the manufacturer. We go through the manufacturer’s conditions with you and you’ll know what they ask for.

Good records make inspections and audits easier. For systems at or over 5 tCO2e, they’re required.

Owner checks or an engineer?

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are usually the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Keep a note of anything odd: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
