Air con across Southend-on-Sea

Our air conditioning service in Southend-on-Sea

The best installations are planned before a single hole is drilled. We look at each room’s size, glazing, orientation and use, then agree where the indoor and outdoor units go and how the pipework, cable and condensate drain will run before you get a fixed-price quote. The work covers multi-split systems, wall-mounted split systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are too many options and no clear advice and fans and portables that don’t keep up.

The first job on site is protection: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work and nothing is moved without asking you. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. It takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access, and we tidy up before we leave.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

What affects the price in Southend-on-Sea

A single unit or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You will have a fixed price before we start, and the quote sets out the VAT.

How to get a quote

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Add the address and what you’d like done, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Local landmarks in Southend-on-Sea

Locally, jobs take us to houses, flats and workplaces close to The Railway Hotel, St Hilda's School and Church of St Mary, among other places. Nearby too are Westborough Academy (under half a mile south), Southend High School for Boys (less than half a mile north) and Prittlewell Square (1 mile south-east). The nearest railway station is Prittlewell station, about 0.6 miles east. A little further out are Southend University Hospital (0.6 miles north-west) and Southend Historic Aircraft Museum (0.9 miles north). Open spaces near Southend-on-Sea include Two Tree Island.

Where we install in Southend-on-Sea

In Southend-on-Sea, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.

Our area stretches from Greater London through Surrey, Kent and Sussex to Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and Southend-on-Sea sits within it. One phone number covers all of it. Parts of Southend-on-Sea are on or near the coast, where salt air is hard on outdoor units. We choose positions and fixings with that in mind.

Southend-on-Sea: About 1.6 miles south-east stands Southchurch Hall. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. If you commute from Prittlewell station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.

How we price air conditioning

Typical ranges are on our prices page, and your quote is built on your job. The quote depends on:

  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle
  • How easy the units are to reach
  • What electrical work the job needs
  • The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you are not sure what’s needed, ring 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

Before you get in touch

Simple jobs can often be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:

  • The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
  • A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light
  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is

Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

System by system

Wall-mounted split systems

Wall-mounted units suit bedrooms, living rooms, home offices and small commercial rooms. We choose the position for even airflow and easy filter access, and away from where the air would blow straight onto people.

Electrical supply

The fuse board is looked at during the survey, so any extra electrical work is on the quote rather than a surprise on the day. An older board may need extra work, and we explain why if so.

Why act early?

The outdoor unit’s position is worth getting right first time. Placing it well keeps noise away from bedrooms and boundaries and makes servicing easier, and it can make a difference to planning. It’s agreed on the survey, not on the day.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the quote shows VAT clearly
  • What paperwork you will receive afterwards
  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
  • Who does the electrical work, and whether they can certify it

Looking after it afterwards

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends
  • Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
  • Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter
  • Tell us if the unit starts to leak, rattle or show a code

We clear up before we go: sheets removed, packaging cleared up and pipe holes sealed. Outside, the pipework is neatly fixed and protected, so the job looks as tidy as it works.

Use sensible settings. A moderate set temperature cools the room just as well as the lowest one, without the waste, and close windows and doors while it’s cooling.

Southend-on-Sea questions

How do you size the system?

Floor area is only part of it. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count, and we take them all into account on the survey.

Do you work on all makes?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and explain why.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

Not the refrigerant work. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Will you make a mess?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, usually whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Most of the time, yes: modern splits are normally heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
