Need air conditioning in Ugley?

Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Ugley

Air conditioning isn’t only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. When someone in Ugley asks us for air con, the first questions are typically price and who will fit it. Our typical prices are on the site, and every install is done by F-Gas qualified engineers.

The outdoor unit position is the biggest single decision: we balance airflow, noise, the pipe run and access for future servicing.

For a home in or near Ugley, an air-to-air system can cool in summer and heat in the cooler months, which suits garden rooms, lofts and extensions that the main heating struggles with.

We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

What we are called out for in Ugley

Loft rooms and top floors tend to suffer most. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, so a bedroom or office under the roof can stay warm well into the night.

These are the situations we see most often:

  • A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
  • A portable unit with a hose out of the window
  • Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient

Around Church of St Peter, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install.

Our hiring checklist

Air conditioning in Ugley: the local picture

About 33% of homes in the Ugley area have been built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records, and about 74% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Newer homes are often easier to fit, with cavity walls and space in the loft for pipework. Houses typically have a side or rear wall with room for the outdoor unit, and a multi-split can serve several rooms from one outdoor unit.

With historic houses such as Horham Hall about 4.6 miles east, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.

Ugley is about 5 miles north of Bishop's Stortford, in Essex. We cover Ugley for air conditioning, along with the rest of Essex. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, and Ugley is one of them. Our London page covers places nearby, about 33 miles away.

That includes properties on Patmore Fields and Vicarage Lane and the roads around them. Jobs in CM22 are looked at, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. If you’re just outside Ugley, we cover Quendon (1 mile north), Ugley Green (1 mile south-east), Elsenham (2 miles south-east), Henham (2 miles east) and Widdington (2 miles north-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Harlow (12 miles south), Saffron Walden (6 miles north), Great Dunmow (8 miles south-east) and Great Notley (15 miles east).

What we do, step by step

Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Somewhere like Ugley, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Before we arrive

  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
  • Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records

Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Advice

When it’s something else

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)
  • An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
  • Draughts and missing insulation

If you’re not sure, just phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on in Ugley

  • Ducted systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • VRF systems
  • Multi-split systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Air-to-air heat pumps

Why deal with it now?

Refrigerant rules have changed what new systems use. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant can’t use F gases with a GWP above 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

No two properties are the same, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.

Ugley questions

Is Ugley in your area for air conditioning?

Yes. Ugley is one of the places we cover. To start, call 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier with a few photos.

Is air conditioning in Ugley permitted development?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Around 12 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Ugley. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones cannot, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact the planning department at Uttlesford council, typically the authority for Ugley.

Which accreditations do you hold?

F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours and position can affect planning.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.

Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?

Usually, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.

A customer’s words

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
