Air conditioning near Sholing

Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Sholing

Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. When someone in Sholing asks us for air con, the first questions are usually price and who will fit it. Our typical prices are on the site, and every install is done by F-Gas qualified engineers.

New circuits are done by our NICEIC approved electricians, so the electrical paperwork comes with the installation.

In a smaller place like Sholing, most installs are in houses and cottages, often with gardens, so there’s typically space for the outdoor unit. The bigger questions are the wall construction and the route back to the consumer unit.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, and we are happy to talk you through them.

Homes in Sholing and air conditioning

At about 2 miles from the coast, Sholing is close enough for sea air to matter. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, so we site them out of the worst of the sea wind where we can, and can suggest models with corrosion-protected coils where the manufacturer offers them.

Medieval Merchant's House (roughly 2.2 miles west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.

Sholing is about 2 miles south-east of Southampton, in Southampton. From the centre of Sholing to the outskirts, we cover air conditioning, from small jobs to large ones. 40 places in Southampton are on our list. Worthing, roughly 42 miles off, has its own page on this site.

Keeping the system healthy

So the system stays in good health:

  • Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together
  • Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
  • Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs

We clear up before we go: sheets removed, packaging cleared up and pipe holes sealed. Outside, the pipework is neatly fixed and protected, so the job looks as tidy as it works.

Do not ignore small changes. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault and catching it early keeps the repair small.

What we’re called out for in Sholing

Rooms in the roof are often the hardest to keep cool. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, which is why a loft bedroom can still be warm at bedtime.

Reasons to give us a call include:

  • Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient
  • Too many options and no clear advice
  • A room that’s unbearable on warm days

Homes near Church of St Mary are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications
  • Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
  • Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why

Choosing an air con installer

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. On site, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Because we plan from pictures or a survey, a job in Sholing can usually be finished in one visit.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets out of the rooms we are working in
  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Tell us about parking and loading

Advice

Sholing questions

Does sea air affect air conditioning in Sholing?

It can, as Sholing is within about 2 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Sholing?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Historic England lists about 5 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Sholing. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and isn’t used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof is not allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask Southampton council, which is normally the planning authority for Sholing.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before you book anyone and we’ll gladly show you ours.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That is a legal requirement, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

How long does it take to fit air conditioning?

It takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. We confirm the time when we quote, so you can plan around it.

Why act early in Sholing

Refrigerant rules have changed what new systems use. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant can’t use F gases with a GWP above 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.
