Air conditioning installation in Puttock's End

Any installation we do in Puttock's End follows the same process as everywhere else we work: a site survey, or pictures for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. Modern air conditioning heats as well as cools: in heating mode they work as an air-to-air heat pump, which is why many owners use theirs all year.

Most single-room installs in Puttock's End are done in a day, with multi-room systems taking longer depending on pipe routes.

In a village like Puttock's End, many homes are older, and some are listed. We check that first, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building.

Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. File them with the system’s paperwork, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

The process

Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we show you what we have done and answer any questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Photos of the room and the outside of the property help us plan a visit to Puttock's End.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process

Getting a price

Owner checks or an engineer?

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are usually the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

How the job changes from property to property

Pipework and condensate drains

The indoor and outdoor units are joined by insulated refrigerant pipes, a cable and a condensate drain. We agree the route with you before we drill and kept as tidy as the building allows.

Electrical supply

Most systems need their own circuit from the consumer unit. We are NICEIC approved, so we fit and certify the circuit ourselves and that covers the Part P side.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed-price quote.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too in Puttock's End and across Essex. Larger buildings can be done in stages to keep disruption down.

What an install looks like in Puttock's End

VOA council tax data show about 47% of homes in the Puttock's End area were built in 2000 or later, and the 2021 Census found about 73% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Newer homes typically have cavity walls and loft space that make pipe runs easier, though some estates have planning conditions or covenants worth checking. With homes like that, finding a sensible outdoor unit position is rarely hard, and a multi-split lets two or more rooms run off it.

With historic houses such as Barrington Hall about 1.9 miles south-west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules. Starting with one room is common, and the outdoor unit can be chosen with more rooms in mind.

Puttock's End questions

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Puttock's End?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Historic England lists about 11 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Puttock's End. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where necessary, we check with the planning department at Uttlesford council, normally the authority for Puttock's End.

Is Puttock's End in your area for air conditioning?

Yes. Puttock's End is one of the places we cover. To start, phone 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form with a few pictures.

Do you work on all makes?

We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.

How quickly will you reply?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

That depends on the brand. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

From one of our customers

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
