Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Mile End
Across Mile End, every installation follows the same steps: survey, fixed-price quote, a neat installation, full commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork. You know the price before work begins and the paperwork is in your hands when we finish. Whether you call it air con, air conditioning or an air-to-air heat pump, it’s the job we do every week across Essex.
A single room takes a day in most homes, with multi-room systems taking longer depending on pipe routes.
Outdoor units around Mile End often sit on the ground or a low wall bracket at the back of the house, where it’s tucked away but still easy to reach for servicing.
The records are your system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler and it’s worth keeping safe.

What affects the quote in Mile End
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- What electrical work the job needs
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
- The condition of any existing system
Every job is different, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.
What we need to know
Simple jobs can often be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
- The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Air conditioning in Mile End: the local picture
About 65% of homes in Mile End and the neighbourhoods around it have been built since 2000, according to VOA council tax data. Newer homes typically have cavity walls and loft space that make pipe runs easier, though some estates have planning conditions or covenants worth checking. Historic England lists about 4 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Mile End, including Church Farmhouse (grade II). None of this rules air conditioning out. It just means the planning position is checked before anyone suggests a spot for the outdoor unit.
If you commute from Colchester station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed. If your home is in one of the older streets near St Michael's Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

Common questions in Mile End
Is Mile End in your area for air conditioning?
Yes. Mile End is one of the places we cover. Just call us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few details.
Will you come out to Mile End?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Which accreditations do you hold?
As the law requires for refrigerant work, we’re an F-Gas certified company. We’re also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
Will I need planning permission?
Not necessarily. On a house, air-to-water heat pumps and, since 2025, air-to-air systems that heat as well as cool can be permitted development if they meet the conditions. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it normally comes up, and we tell you at the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
How do I know what size unit to get?
Floor area is only part of it. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count, and we take them all into account on the survey.
How much is air conditioning for one room?
For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. You get a fixed price before any work starts.
The process
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. The visit takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. We plan the visit to Mile End from the survey or your pictures.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
- We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.
Getting ready for the visit
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
- Keep pets and children away from the work area
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
Getting a price
To get a fixed-price quote, phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form with the address and a few details about the rooms or units involved. Photos help a lot. We reply to enquiries the same working day.

After we’ve gone
Aftercare is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Refit filters properly after cleaning
- Shut doors and windows when it’s on
- Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs
We recommend an annual service, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We’ll remind you when it’s due, so it does not get forgotten.
Book an annual service. A service cleans what you can’t reach and picks up faults before they stop the system, and it keeps any warranty servicing conditions in order.
Owner checks or an engineer?
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
What a customer said
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
