Air conditioning installation in Little Oakley

Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. Which one suits you depends on the space, the building and how much of the unit you want to see, and we explain the options on the survey. Modern air conditioning heats as well as cools: the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes called air conditioning, so a system bought for summer earns its keep in winter too.

In a village like Little Oakley, many homes are older, and some are listed. That matters, because a listed home needs consent and permitted development rules don’t apply to it, and the outdoor unit position is chosen to suit the building.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. Keep it with the system’s paperwork, because it helps with any later warranty question.

Different systems, different jobs

Outdoor unit positions

Outdoor units are fitted on wall brackets, at ground level or on a flat roof, whatever suits the building and the route. It needs airflow around it and room for servicing.

Multi-split systems

A multi-split runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit. It’s a neat answer when space outside is limited and several rooms need it, with each room controlled separately.

Leave it or put it right?

Fans and portables move warm air around rather than removing it. A properly installed split moves heat outside, keeps the noisy parts out of the room and in most cases heats too, so it works for you in winter as well. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before we start, with VAT shown clearly.

What owners can safely do

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo of the display helps even more.

Common questions in Little Oakley

Is air conditioning in Little Oakley permitted development?

It depends on the property. Around 8 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Little Oakley. Permitted development only covers heat pumps that are not used solely for cooling, and not within the grounds of a listed building. Conservation areas add limits on outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Little Oakley, normally Tendring council).

Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in Little Oakley?

It can, as Little Oakley is within about 2 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.

Do you cover Little Oakley?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, and that includes Little Oakley.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.

Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?

In most cases. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for problems that cannot wait for a planned visit. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

How it works

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Photos of the room and the outside of the property help us plan a visit to Little Oakley.

  1. First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
