Need air conditioning in Boxted?

Questions from Boxted

Will air conditioning in Boxted need planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Historic England lists about 26 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Boxted. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where necessary, we check with Colchester council, which is normally the planning authority for Boxted.

Is Boxted within the area you cover?

Yes. Boxted is within the area we cover across London and the South East. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

It can, for some brands. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we’ll explain them and stick to the interval they set.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.

How long does air conditioning installation take?

Allow a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. The survey tells us how long your installation will need, so you can plan around it.

How much is air conditioning for one room?

Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork and is fixed after a survey or from photos.

We fit wall-mounted splits, multi-split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes, with VRF for larger buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be, and we explain the options on the survey. Need an air conditioning installer for Boxted? Getting the size right matters more than the brand: we look at the room’s size, windows, insulation and use before choosing a unit.

For a home in or near Boxted, an air-to-air system can cool in summer and heat in the cooler months, which suits rooms the main heating doesn’t reach well, such as a garden room or loft.

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

The process

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. On site, the work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. Visits to Boxted are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits

How to get a quote

Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.

Whether it’s one property or many, the approach is the same: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote, work booked with the occupier and written records afterwards.

Bigger systems bring extra duties: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We arrange the inspection, get the system ready and put right anything it picks up.

When something else is needed

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
  • Central heating repairs
  • Draughts and missing insulation

If you’re not sure, just call 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • VRF systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Multi-split systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Ducted systems

Aftercare tips

Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. Our tips:

  • Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter
  • Keep the handover documents somewhere safe
  • Avoid setting it far colder than you need

Questions after the installation go to the same number. Tell us what the system is doing, and any code on the display and we’ll help you sort it out.

Have the system serviced once a year. A service cleans what you cannot reach and picks up faults before they stop the system, and it keeps any warranty servicing conditions in order.

Air conditioning around Boxted

The last census (2021) found about 88% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. A side passage or back wall normally gives the outdoor unit a home, and more than one bedroom can be cooled through a multi-split.

Castle House, about 3.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Peter, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.
