Air conditioning installation in Alfold Bars
A new system normally needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. Most enquiries from Alfold Bars start with one hot room: a bedroom, a home office or a loft conversion. That’s typically a single wall-mounted split, from £1,200 + VAT.
The outdoor unit position is the biggest single decision: we balance airflow, noise, the pipe run and access for future servicing.
Villages like Alfold Bars often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. That matters, because a listed home needs consent and permitted development rules do not apply to it, and the outdoor unit position is chosen to suit the building.
Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we set them out on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, and we’re happy to talk you through them.

How it works
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. On site, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. If a lane or gateway near Alfold Bars is tight for a van, let us know and we will plan for it.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
- Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area

Aftercare tips
Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:
- Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter
- Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
- Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
We recommend an annual service, and some manufacturers make regular servicing a condition of their warranty. We will remind you when it’s due, so it doesn’t get forgotten.
Keep the outdoor unit clear. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, which makes the whole system less efficient.
When it’s something else
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
- A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
- Building damp that has a structural cause
Not sure which it is? You can call us on 07833 053749 and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Homes in Alfold Bars and air conditioning
About 83% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Houses usually have a side or rear wall with room for the outdoor unit, and a multi-split can serve several rooms from one outdoor unit.
If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Nicholas, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are usually the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start.

For landlords and property managers
Running several properties is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.
Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We arrange the inspection, get the system ready and put right anything it picks up.
Alfold Bars: your questions answered
Is air conditioning in Alfold Bars permitted development?
The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. The half-mile around the middle of Alfold Bars holds about 16 listed buildings and structures. Permitted development only covers heat pumps that are not used solely for cooling, and not within the grounds of a listed building. Conservation areas add limits on outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Alfold Bars, usually Chichester council).
Can you do air conditioning in Alfold Bars?
We do: Alfold Bars falls inside our working area. Get in touch with the details and we reply the same working day.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
When will I hear back?
The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before any work starts, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
We agree it with you on the survey. It needs space around it to breathe and room for an engineer to service it, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We explain the options and any permissions to check.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. That is not optional: it’s required by law, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
From one of our customers
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
